I find myself flying toward a friend's house, in a neighborhood that I know well. While up there I see a plane making an approach to the Burbank airport, which is near her house. I watch this orange/red and gold painted plane make two approaches, both of them being way too fast. Even I can see that the pilots are having a hard time getting the landing right, yet I don't detect anything wrong with the plane itself. On that second approach, the pilots land the plane - not quite right. They can't stay on the runway and go off of it and onto the street. Unbelievably, the plane remains in tact, doesn't crush anyone on the ground, and doesn't kill any passengers or crew. I had the impression that the pilot landed on that second approach because he had lost confidence that he would make it on a third approach. It was a now or never decision.
