| Solar Prominence Eruption
Triggers CME March 28 2015 Solar Activity and Time Shift Activity Report Have a look at this SOHO solar photo from yesterday March 27, 2015. At first glance it looks similar to to a coronal mass ejection [CME] that developed from a solar flare eruption. That may be what it looks like - but that is not what it is. This CME was actually triggered when a solar prominence erupted and sent a powerful amount of plasma away from the Sun. While some of the solar particles fell back to the Sun, enough of it escaped the Sun's pull and made it into space. This prominence eruption, and associated CME, is an example of why you shouldn't only look to solar flares for CME action. This particular eruption doesn't even appear on any solar flare charts, which of course it should not. Because of the length of the prominence that erupted, most of the CME will probably travel away from the Earth - but some of the energy may make it to Earth. I'll keep you posted on the situation if needed. Meanwhile, that solar wind that I reported about yesterday hasn't quite made itself known yet. There are no geomagnetic conditions to speak of - yet. I'll keep you updated on this situation too, if needed. Aurora watchers in Arctic regions, and northern latitudes, should stay alert for auroras in their areas. |
| Solar Wind Expected Time Shift Watch March 27 2015 Solar Activity and Time Shift Activity Report Have a look at this solar photo from SDO. That coronal hole, which opened at the Sun's southern edge, has been spewing a solar wind stream in Earth's direction. This solar wind is expected to hit Earth starting tomorrow or the next day. Solar wind hits are a little hard to pin down because they don't always stay on am even trajectory - in this that trajectory being the 93 million miles it takes for a solar wind to leave the Sun and make it to the Earth. This trip generally takes 4 days, but can take 5 or more days depending on a number of variant factors such as the speed at which the solar wind is traveling. It can even depend on Time Shift time line edit activity. When it does make it to Earth, this solar wind has the ability to trigger a geomagnetic storm, possibly Time Shift activity, and most definitely auroras. So stay tuned and watch for those Time Shift markers. They can sometimes be the biggest clue available that indicates a Time Shift is in progress. Here is a brief summary of what to watch for in Time Shift markers. Due to frequency and time line edit changes associated with Time Shifts there may be Time Shift triggered earthquake, volcano, tornado, weather, and geophysical events. Tech communications may be disrupted, cetaceans may strand or swim wrong way. Auroras will form. 2015 Magnetic Solar Tornado Loop Up Close What you are looking at is one of the most extraordinary photos of the Sun I have ever seen. The solar image was taken by the TRACE camera, which is no longer in operation - sadly. | Incredible Day 5: Geomagnetic
Storm Conditions Continue Time Shift Activity Continues March 23 2015 Solar Activity and Time Shift Activity Report For the fifth day Earth is experiencing geomagnetic storm conditions. Take a look at this geomagnetic K-index chart from NOAA because it tells the story. This run of geomagnetic storms started on March 17, 2015 when a coronal mass ejection [CME] from sunspot 2297 hit us. As a reminder, this was after the previously expected solar grand slam disappeared into the 'Twilight Zone'. Of course it didn't really disappear. It somehow got itself edited out of the current time line after its energy triggered Time Shift activity. You can read more about that in my previous posts on the missing grand slam. Then here comes along this single modest CME and whammo! Earth experiences powerful G4 geomagnetic storm numbers becoming the most powerful geomagnetic event of the solar season. This, BTW, would be the missing grand slam making an appearance in the strange way that Time Shift events sometimes do. The current geomagnetic storm was triggered by a 600km/sec solar wind emanating from a a coronal hole that about 5 days ago. While this G2 geomagnetic is mostly confined to the Arctic latitudes, it nonetheless makes the geomagnetic storm conditions on Earth stretch into an incredible day 5. While powerful X flare worthy sunspot 2297 has since rotated onto the non-Earth facing side of the Sun, 6 sunspots have formed to take its place on the Earth facing side of the Sun. So far this group, which is spread out from solar rim to solar rim, have only produced B and C class flares. But hey, it's the Sun. So activity there could change in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, Time Shift activity and time line edits continue. Here is a brief summary of what to watch for in Time Shift markers. | The Sun Goes Loopy Geomagnetic Storm Conditions Continue Time Shift Activity Continues March 21, 2015 Solar Activity and Time Shift Activity Report Take a look at what is going on with the Sun right now, thanks to this remarkable SDO photo. So you see all of those loops? The loops are actually millions of miles of solar matter that is being held together by magnetic energy and gravity. That big series of loops on the right rim is departing sunspot 2297 - the one that fired off the X flare at us. Although it has now rotated onto the far side of the Sun, 2297 still has the energy to fire off another X flare. Now look at the loop activity on the left rim. What you are loo9king at is the solar activity that is coming our way. In particular is a double dark spotted sunspot that has been numbered 2305. This is a sunspot worth keeping an eye on. Meanwhile, Earth is still experiencing geomagnetic storming from the March 17, 2015 date that it began and rose up to become a powerful G4 event. Even tho the geomag storm is now only a G1, the fact that it has endured this long is incredible. Time Shift and time line edit activity has been non-stop, which means that we've all experienced our share of Time Shift markers that clue us into the time line changes in our midst.
